lathe was named for her calm, even-tempered personality, which gives them the kind of balanced symmetry one would expect from a lathe-made item. they are fairly serious and quiet in a way that sometimes causes them to come off as shy. she isn't particularly sensitive but due to her gentle mannerisms, other not-cats often tend to feel protective of her anyway.

upon hearing of the existence of the gate, lathe and their younger sibling laika decided to travel from their childhood home to reach it. it was the twosome's first time away from home and they depended on each other's support to reach their destination. the journey took its toll though, and laika endured a minor injury during their travels. they decided to have laika rest outside the gate while lathe checked in and reported back. however, laika recovered quickly and decided to go after her the next day after lathe failed to return.

the two were delighted to be reunited on not-earth, but eventually decided to set out their separate ways in order to explore the new world they found themselves in. lathe went to wriggle and laika found a village called by-the-brook to call home. they often write each other letters detailing their adventures.

arrived on not-earth through the gate in early autumn, year 7 and came to wriggle on day 17 of the season.
