A humble not-cat who is always eager to help others. Despite their great strength, Cloudcover is non-threatening and easy to talk to. They're quick to feel embarrassed, and a bit of a people-pleaser. It seems they might be a little shy.
They're in charge of managing Little Respite's construction crew, but because there are no specific plans for the expansion or maintenance of the village, this mostly just means overseeing health and safety, and resolving conflicts in the workplace. They still have a lot of fun making building materials and hanging out with the crew all day, though, and whenever something needs building, they are well-prepared!
Cloudcover was born in the Twinkling Clearing, where they grew up alongside their siblings, the young prodigy and eventual highly-popular mayor, Clover, and exceptionally talented adventurer, Flutter. Much as Cloudcover loved their siblings, it wasn't always easy growing up in the shadow of such exceptional not-cats. When they heard of a new village being established not too far from the Twinkling Clearing by a small group of not-cats who had just arrived on Not-Earth, they decided to leave their home and come over to lend a paw in the new community.
Though they may have been lost in the crowd a bit back home, in Little Respite, their skills are greatly revered. With a lot of love an encouragement from their new friends, Cloudcover has finally begun to grow more confident in themself.
Although Cloudcover quickly became very close with Midnight, it took them a little while to feel bold enough to truly open up to others. Humorously, the next not-cat to become close with Cloudcover was Mothsilk, the village recluse. Xyr social awkwardness and appreciation for the simple things in life put Cloudcover at ease, and the two unexpectedly made great friends.
Shortly after becoming best friends with Mothsilk, Bayleaf approached Cloudcover and confessed she'd wanted to be closer friends with them for a while, too. The two had known each other since they both lived in the Twinkling Clearing, and though Bayleaf had been too shy to take the first step, she always thought Cloudcover was wonderful and would like to get to know them better. After spending many afternoons working on various construction projects together, Bayleaf was more certain than ever - she wanted to become best friends with Cloudcover!
Social circle: [The Founders] [Construction Squad] [The Adventurer's Guild]
- Midnight: Cloudcover's beloved partner. The two of them plan to have many, many adopted children. They are very gentle with and supportive of one another.
- Orca: Cloudcover's adopted child, whom they raised with Midnight. They still have a tendency to baby Orca, though Orca doesn't mind. Cloudcover makes sure Orca knows they will always protect and care for them, no matter how old they get.
- Cataclysm: Since Orca has come to see Cataclysm as a surrogate littermate, Cloudcover feels a special parental bond with it. They helped everyone co-parent it while it was growing up, but secretly think of it as a bit more "theirs" (and Midnight's) than anyone else's.
- Bayleaf: Cloudcover's best friend. They both enjoy building things, and Bayleaf inspires Cloudcover to build stuff just for fun sometimes, and not always to help others out. They tell each other everything and are closely involved in each other's lives.
- Mothsilk: Another best friend. Though one wouldn't think Cloudcover and Mothsilk would have much in common, they greatly enjoy sharing cozy quiet-time together. They can spend entire rainy afternoons inside not saying a word to one another and still feel like they've had a wonderful day of bonding. Their mutual idea of "fun" can seem a little boring to other not-cats, but then it's a good thing they have each other.
- Hearthflame: Cloudcover's partner in crime whenever it's time to get a little silly. They jokingly refer to each other as in-laws, since Hearthflame is close friends with Midnight and Cloudcover is his partner.
- Stream and Tea: Fellow former Twinkling Clearing not-cats. Though they weren't close growing up, Cloudcover has known the two of them since they were little and they all moved to Little Respite around the same time. Because they grew up in the same village, they know a lot of funny stories about each other.
- Clover and Flutter: Cloudcover's littermates. Though their relationship has been a tiny bit strained in the past, they've grown closer again in adulthood. Now that Cloudcover lives elsewhere, they send each other many letters.
- Betty and Belinda: Cloudcover's parents. Cloudcover still comes home to visit them with some frequency, usually bringing Orca and Midnight along. Betty and Belinda were a great help when Cloudcover first adopted Orca, which helped strengthen their relationship with Cloudcover in turn right after Cloudcover moved out from home. They are immensely proud of both their child and grandchild.
- Mango: Cloudcover's older half-sibling through Belinda, who lives in a distant village. They never got to know him all that well, but the two of them still send each other little festive cards around the holidays.
