Pinenut is a happy-go-lucky cat with boundless optimism that things will work out. He is not too bothered with the intricacies and details of whatever situation is at hand, and believes in a 'good enough' approach to most things.
As kittens, him and his littermate, Conifer, spent most of their time hanging around the adults to absorb information about the world, and then putting that knowledge to work building and constructing different things, from miniature catapults to expansions to their tree house. Now that Pinenut has gotten older, however, his thirst for knowledge about the world seems mostly quenched, and it seems these days, he enjoys watching things fall over just as much as he likes when whatever he's working on actually works out.
While Pinenut may not be as much of a prodigy in the practical department as his littermate, his peers may still ask him how to solve a problem now and again, as he can often give people a nudge in the right direction by sharing which solutions he knows will most likely not work out.
Pinenut also seems immune to any frustrating, tedious task you might give him. He takes failure in stride, and will happily sit and fidget with a particularly stubborn knot in a sewing project that others have given up on until it finally gives way. Sometimes, he does end up making even more of a mess of things than when he began, but if you're close to throwing something out and starting anew, might as well let Pinenut have a crack at it first.

- Conifer: Pinenut's littermate. The two are the best of friends and mostly just play with each other, while staying out of the complicated kitten politics playing out around them. Pinenut is growing up quite a bit quicker than Conifer, so Conifer thinks of him as incredibly smart. However, Conifer has all the determination and good ideas between the two, so he also thinks of himself as the bold and daring leader. Pinenut goes along with it because being a dynamic duo like that is so much fun.
- Hedgehog: Conifer and Pinenut's best friend. They consider her an honorary third littermate, and she is the first friend who was ever allowed in their treehouse. Because she's quite a lot smarter and more mature than Conifer - even more so than Pinenut - Pinenut looks up to her quite a bit and models some of his behavior on her. He feels like he always gets smarter talking to Hedgehog.
- Moldspore: Another friend of him and Conifer. When Moldspore can't get along with aer not-littermates, ae goes to hang out with the two of them and complain. While ae doesn't have much in common with them, ae does find their little projects interesting, and the two of them are great listeners who get along with just about everybody, so they're nice to be around.
- Beth and Pinecone: Conifer's parents. He always listens closely to them and doesn't misbehave, so they barely ever have to tell him 'no.' Pinecone is secretly aware of the kids' secret treehouse out back, but he pretends he doesn't, and goes out of his way to help them hide it. Pinenut has learned a lot about socializing and being a good friend from closely watching Pinecone hang out with aer friends, and he has learned a lot about being thoughtful and inquisitive about the world from Beth.
