A quiet kitten who rarely shows emotion. Smudge is perfectly well-mannered - at times to the point of being a bit uncanny - but ae doesn't appear to like to speak with others more than necessary. Ae seems to possess strong opinions on most everything just beneath the surface, but ae will only share aer true feelings if prodded quite a bit.
Ae likes to look presentable and is somewhat vain. Ae is somewhat placid and tends to go along with whatever the not-cats around aer want aer to do, but when ae does put aer foot down, it's usually because one of aer parents wanted aer to wear something ae deemed too cutesy or juvenile.

- Nacre: Smudge's littermate, who drags aer around with her everywhere, despite aer general lack of participating in whatever she's doing beyond just kind of hanging around. Since Smudge is such a closed book, even Nacre has no idea what's going on in aer head most of the time, but this doesn't bother her much, as she's pretty sure the fact that Smudge willingly goes with her means ae probably loves her very, very much. The few times Smudge has commented on aer feelings regarding Nacre, ae tends to describe her as something along the lines of "annoying", but Nacre doesn't take it personally. Surely ae's just joking!
- Tigerlily: Nacre's half-nibling through Lily, who's a little older than aer and serves as a sibling figure in aer life. Tigerlily has mixed feelings on both Smudge and Nacre, and struggles not to get jealous of their place in Lily's life. They really strain not to be mean to the kittens, however, as they don't want to jeopardize their place in the family. Smudge seems to quite like Tigerlily's company, and if left to aer own devices, ae is likely to seek them out sooner or later. Something about the way ae approaches them makes Tigerlily worry that ae knows about their jealousy problems, but if ae's aware, it doesn't seem to bother aer.
- Tea, Stream, Spark and Lily: Nacre and Smudge's parents. Despite aer weirdness, aer parents treat aer like any other kitten. It's possible that after raising Specter, nothing can really surprise any of them. Nonetheless, they do go out of their way to pay a little extra attention to Smudge, as otherwise, Nacre would without a doubt hog all their mental bandwidth. Lily especially can't help but find Smudge's strangeness endearing, and they have to fight the urge every day to put aer in cutesy little outfits, the same way they do with Nacre.
- Specter and Marble: Smudge and Nacre's older siblings, who have been out traveling the world since before they could really remember. They frequently get letters from them, however, and they send lots of gifts home to their baby siblings. Smudge is kind of shy about the two of them and rarely finds the courage to add anything to the letters the family sends back. Once in a great while, ae might insist on adding some kind of weird or creepy little item as a gift, anxiously hoping to win Specter's approval especially.
