This loose collection of buildings and shelters is located on the outskirts of Woodnote. Although the construction might look crude, they're just as sturdy as any of its other buildings - they're just smaller. (At most two full-grown cats can live comfortably in each, another one or two if they're kittens.) There's a variety of shelters to choose from, ranging from a fur-lined hut, to a rock lean-to, to even just a cavern in the roots of a sturdy tree. Those who come to live here can choose which suits their taste.

Woodnote's kittens and adolescents often go through stages of wanting to prove themselves and live on their own. They get to live in these houses and hunt and gather for themselves, with only bare interference from their parents (who check in daily to make sure they're doing alright - they've eaten, slept comfortably, they aren't lonely or sad, etc). After this stage passes (they get tired of hunting, they get lonesome, or otherwise miss home), the kittens return home to their families. Adolescents might instead choose to move in with friends, or decide to leave Woodnote entirely.

Even fully-grown residents of Woodnote might come out to these houses. Sometimes they just want to play survival like the kittens; sometimes they have a fight with their housemates and need somewhere to cool off alone; other times they simply don't feel like interacting with others, so they go somewhere they aren't necessarily expected to. There's all sorts of reasons why a cat could spend a few days in a solitary home.
